Tips for Cleaning and Storing Wine Goblets

in Food and Cooking

Wine goblets are something that you use to really enhance the experience of drinking wine. Aside from making sure that you have a nice set of goblets, you really want to make sure that you look after them properly. Many people don’t really consider this step, but depending on the type of goblet that you have it can make all the difference to your enjoyment of the wine you pour in to them.

Ideally you don’t want to wash your goblet with any chemicals. This, along with the high heat and rigorous cleaning of a dishwasher means that you really shouldn’t use these things to clean your goblets. Instead I would recommend that you wash your goblet using just warm water. Make sure that the water is clean as you don’t want the scent of anything else in the water to taint your goblet.

Ideally you should leave your goblet to air dry out of direct sunlight rather than drying with a cloth. Dishcloths have tendency to deposit small amounts of lint on to whatever you are drying up. Once they are dry you want to store them properly.

Wine goblets for use, rather than ornament, should be stored out of direct light. Ideally you won’t store them in any cupboard that is damp or has a particular smell. This is because this can cause your goblets, especially wooden goblets, to become impregnated by a foreign scent that can be detected when tasting wine from your goblet. Try and find the best place in your home to store these goblets.

If you only get the best wine goblets out on special occasions, it pays to give them a rinse and allow them to air dry before use to remove any dust build up.

If you care for your wine goblets you will have excellent wine drinking experiences that won’t be effected by the smell of your goblets, leaving your to just enjoy the taste and smell of the wine.
