It has become quite popular in the last few years to use devices such as indoor cat fences as train tools for our pets. It can be very frustrating to properly train a pet, especially for cat owners. Cats are very independent and stubborn, and if they don’t want to do something, it can be very hard to stop them. You can physically stop them from acting inappropriately, but that will only last for a few minutes. Once you take your eyes off of them, they will return to doing what ever it was that you stop them from doing. Perhaps it is their free spirit and lack of concern for their masters wills that has lead many pet owners to use training tools that are a bit more radical.
An indoor cat fence is just another name for wireless pet fences, or electric pet fences. These devices use negative reinforcement to train your pet. The way this tool works is by using radio waves to setup a radius that the pet owner sets. A receiver is placed on their cat’s collar. When ever the animal ventures outside of the predetermined radius, the transmitter is unable to send a signal to the receiver and the cat gets shocked.
It has been proven that this method is very effective. Well of course it is, I don’t know about you but I got a painful shock in my neck every time that I acted a certain way, I would probably stop too. The effectiveness of this training tool is not in question, it is the method of training that is detrimental to your pet. You have to ask yourself if you are really willing to inflict physical pain on your pet inorder to force them to obey you. If you answer yes to that question, maybe you should reconsider being a pet owner.
